October 5: Art on wheels

I watch the very long Group of Seven canvas rolling by—114 miles long.
The Agawa Canyon train takes us deep into the Algoma region just north of Sault Ste Marie.  The canyon, nestled between the edges of the Canadian Shield and Lake Superior hides some of the most spectacular Fall colours.

In the 1919, Lawren Harris and his artist buddies travelled up and down the line in a boxcar to paint the vivid colours they saw.  These rich golds and reds are prominent features of Group of Seven paintings in galleries across Canada and beyond.
